With an ever-evolving modern society, the ability to use computing effectively is an essential life skill for our pupils. Children are increasingly living in an abstract world where logic and data are  frequently and easily manipulated. If children are able to analyse problems and  evaluate digital content then they will be able to influence and control new or  unfamiliar technology in a competent and responsible way. As computing is continually developing and new technologies are emerging, as a school we strive to give all pupils the skills needed to prepare them for the future.


In line with the National Curriculum for Computing, our aim is to provide a high-quality computing education which equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.


It is our intention to enable children to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in a discriminating and effective way. We want children to know more, remember more and understand more in computing so that they leave primary school computer literate.


Our computing curriculum recognises that computing has deep links with mathematics, science and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The Computing Curriculum is embedded into all other subject areas and is used to enhance and compliment many different areas of learning.


All children are given the opportunity to develop skills in digital literacy (e-safety), computer science (coding) and IT (eg. word processing, presenting data).


Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners and it is our intention that children have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this.


The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation;
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems;
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems;
  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
